• DPF sensors: The diesel particulate filter consists of various sensors that track its performance. Any damage to DPF sensors may result in incorrect readings and cause DPF performance problems.
• Short journeys at low speeds, where the diesel engine fails to reach optimal working temperature. The DPF regeneration process is constantly interrupted, not allowing it to burn off soot particles.
• Driving at low revs: While this may increase fuel efficiency, this practice is one of the major causes of DPF failure. Namely, the engine warms up too slowly, not reaching the temperature needed for DPF regeneration.
• The use of the wrong engine oil: Cars fitted with DPFs require the use of mid-SAPS and low-SAPS engine oil.
• EGR valve failure: When it is clogged, it may cause the excessive accumulation of soot.
• An empty additive tank compromises DPF regeneration and causes premature blocking of its porous walls.
• Not having your DPF checked. Regular inspection allows you to identify DPF performance issues. A mechanic will tell you whether it has to be cleaned.
